Woodworking
Wanda's Method for
Attaching
a Half Hitch

1. With the working end of the yarn
between your thumb and finger, bring the yarn up from the spindle wrapping
over the index finger.

2. Rotate your hand (thumb downward) to
create a V. The working (drafting) end of the yarn is pinched between the
middle finger and thumb. (You'll find which fingers and method works best
for you as you experiment.)
Bring
the loop of the yarn to the top of the shaft. My right hand guides the
spindle while the left hand manipulates the yarn.
3.
As the shaft moves into the loop created by index finger, the working
end is “beneath” the yarn coming up from the spindle crossbars. The yarn
coming up the shaft will be on top of the working end once the hitch is
snugged in place. This is what keeps the working end from slipping off the
shaft.

4. Working end being pulled snug.

5. Completed half-hitch
