Bits & Pieces of our Lives
May 1, 2007

It's astonishing how quickly the months blur past! In February Stitch Diva hosted a sale to help pay for extensive dental work which Ed needed. We were overwhelmed by the incredible response. Thanks to everyone who bought something and made it possible for Ed to get his teeth repaired. February was an extremely busy month making all the products that went flying to places around the world.

March and April have continued with increased orders. This is exciting for us as we fully rely on this business for our income. But the reality still is that health insurance also increased by 33%, to a level that just isn't possible. As with so many other Americans who pay directly for health insurance, we counted the cost and decided that at least for now it's better to save that money for a rainy day. We're basically healthy with the exception of Ed's back, but there's nothing to be done for that. Other than needing stitches after getting bitten by a dog last summer we haven't been to a doctor in almost three years. When I went in with the gaping hole left in my leg from the dog's teeth the doctor was surprised to see me, he'd wondered if I'd changed doctors it'd been so long. No way! He's a great doctor.

Our hairpin lace loom was featured on DIY's Knitty Gritty in April! Whoot!

Ed kept getting requests for smaller circular knitting needles, so he finally developed smaller with exotic woods, and Hard Rock Maple which is much stronger than our western maple he uses for most of our products. It's been exciting to break into the smaller, more commonly used needles. Anne Hanson of Knitspot created a fabulous "Morning Glory Wrap" using our #9/5.5mm circular needles. Check out her April 16, 2007 entry for pictures and link to this incredible pattern. With the debut of the Morning Glory Wrap and pattern we've seen a jump in orders for small circular knitting needles.

Our granddaughter Faith continues to be a delight! I usually baby-sit her once a week, sometimes more if M gets called in to work on a different day. Last Saturday I ran into her mom and other grandmother who was holding Faith, at the grocery store. Faith bounced up and down with excitement, a smile covering her face. She was excited by  my appearance at the store. Her world is getting bigger.

She's discovered the fun of banging pieces of wood together. Her favorites? Why, Yarn Gauges -- Perfect!
